The Rotary Club of South Hilo is distributing dictionaries to third-graders in various East Hawaii Schools as part of the club’s annual literacy program.
Dictionaries will be distributed to St. Joseph School, E.B. deSilva School, Chiefess Kapiolani School, Kalanianaole School and Keaukaha Elementary School.
The dictionaries contain more than word definitions.
Sign language and braille, as well as information on all 50 states, are contained in this mini encyclopedia, said a Rotary spokesman.
Rotary clubs throughout the state will be distributing the dictionaries to all of the third-graders in Hawaii, making it possible for each student to have his or her own personal dictionary to keep and use for many years.
